Repertorium Academicum (REPAC)
REPAC is a digital history research project run at the Institute of History of the University of Bern. It is scientifically accompanied by a board of trustees (organ) of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW). The Board of Trustees promotes and reflects the development of the research databases and web presences of the projects operated in REPAC: Repertorium Academicm Helveticum (RAH), Repertorium Bernense (RB) and Repertorium Academicum Germanicum (RAG). The common goal of the projects is the prosopographical foundation of a history of the impact of scholars and scholarly knowledge in the European area between 1250 and 1550.
Although the focus is on the pre-modern history of the emergence of today's knowledge society, it concerns very current questions of both knowledge research and public opinion. These are questions about the acquisition of oral and written competences, about different educational successes and career perspectives of graduates of the various educational institutions, and thus about questions of equal opportunities, social mobility and the emergence of new or complementary occupational and impulse groups (professionalisations). But questions also go further about the establishment of administrative and ruling techniques, about the formation of networks of knowledge carriers, about the circulation of knowledge and personal career paths both in the regional and in the European area. Scholars and non-scholars can also answer questions about the shaping, cohesion and change of political and social systems of societies, especially for times of crisis management (plague, natural disasters, famines, social unrest). The REPAC projects can take up such questions in an exemplary manner for various European spaces and regions, especially for the phase 1300-1550 under the conditions of the many upheavals and crises, but also innovations in politics, administration, culture and economy.
